The Department of Physical Education in West Anhui University now has two undergraduate majors: Physical Education and Leisure Sports, in which, Physical Education was approved as one of the class-A discipline in the university in 2014.

The Department has a staff of 45 people now: 40 full-time teachers, and 19 of them have a title of associate professor and above, which consist 48% of all teachers in the Department. Also, 23 of them have a degree of Master and above, consisting 58% in proportion. They are mainly in charge of teaching Physical Education majors and College Sports for all other students.

We have 4 divisions: Basic Theory, Ball Games, Athletics/ Gymnastics/ Martial Arts, and College Sports; 5 professional laboratories: Anatomy Physiology, Sports Health Care, Athletic Rehabilitation, Massage and Psychology of Physical Education. Also, we have 1 provincial innovation platform, 2 Service Centers for Sports Events in the university, 2 provincial training bases.

In recent years, we have made progress in fields of education, scientific research, sports competition and social service. Teachers of our Department undertook 1 project of National Social Science Fund for Youth as well as over 20 provincial science projects. In addition, we published 2 textbooks and more than 120 papers in academic periodicals. Most of our students who took part in sports competition and games at national or provincial level, won prizes with excellent performances. Also, they took an active part in important sports events as organizers or referees. We have 1 gymnasium and 3 indoor gyms. Our outdoor playground covers an area of 60,000 square meters. All of our equipment could cater for the need of teaching, training and exercising, which is worth more than 3 million Yuan.

The Department of Physical Education will continue cultivating applied talents as a foundation of constructing our specialty and training students of practical abilities.
